Changes to a contract should be visible directly in the text, like Track Changes in Word: what was inserted, what was deleted – with accept, reject, and restore right in the document. Today, changes only appear in the comment sidebar on the right, which makes long contracts with complex changes virtually impossible to follow.
Litera Compare is an excellent implementation of this (!) and worth studying closely for your upcoming implementation.
